Nirvana - Drain You [‘91 Demo]
April, 1991 - Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl and Dale Crover (from The Melvins) dubbed themselves ‘The Retards’ and went into The Melvins’ practice space located in San Francisco, California to record a 4-track demo of ‘Drain You.’
"The session was Kurt’s idea, he was wanting to start-up as many bands as possible. I don’t remember who came up with the name, ‘The Retards’, I just remember that it happened quick, and it had to because we only had two days. I was kind of disappointed to hear the edited release on the ‘With The Lights Out’ boxset. They basically chopped off the beginning in which you hear either Dale, Kurt or Dave saying, ‘We are The Retards, and we are going to play a song for you!’" - Debbi Shane. [engineer]
Family, cult, gang, garage band; Girl Trouble has been perceived as all of these things. Strictly Sacred is the intensely personal account of the group’s 30 years in the Northwest music scene. Hailing from the depressed city of Tacoma Washington, the band developed a unique brand of infectious garage dance music which they soon brought to Olympia, Seattle, and the other surrounding territories. Bon Von Wheelie (drums), The Big Kahuna (guitar), Dale Phillips (bass), and K.P. Kendall (vocals) were soon courted by K records, Subpop, PopLlama, Empty, and Estrus. Alas, they have eluded fame since 1984.
Director Isaac Olsen is related to the band by blood and has used his unlimited resources to full, uncompromising effect to craft a documentary that gets closer to it’s subjects than any handful of Rock and Roll films. Featuring rare performances, home movies, and probing interviews with Calvin Jonhson, Neko Case, and Art Chantry. This is unfiltered Girl Trouble, up close and personal.
